Modern bars and clubs know only too well the importance of a good DJ set. A night’s takings can be made or broken on who is behind the decks. So when it comes to getting the party started they don’t come much better or bigger than acclaimed duo 500lbs of Funk.  Formed in late 2013, Mullingar duo 500lbs of Funk bring a unique mix of classic funk, disco, and hip-hop to the dance floor. Having grown up sharing an eclectic love of music, Colm and Podge joined forces and have mastered the art of selecting and mixing classic records spanning genres and eras that culminate in a fun, soulful and powerful live DJ set. There is a mix of nostalgic and retro dance tracks combined with tub thumping house classic that have seen the pair being added to some of the country’s top clubs and festivals.  

Colm’s musical tastes stem from a strong early background of DJing House and Techno in many of Irelands oldest nightclubs in Dublin and Galway, while Podge’s lifelong passion for basslines led him to a for love for disco ,soul and funk records…combine them musical tastes and you have yourself a party!

A typical three hour set will bring you on a journey beginning in the world of hip hop with early classics form a Tribe Called Quest, Jurassic 5 and De La Soul but the night will always leave your pulled up to the bumper in the world of house, disco and funk classics from artists like Chic, Grace Jones and Donna Summer.

Residencies in recent years at Number 1*  and The Lane Club, in hometown Mullingar, allowed the two DJ’s to establish their set for cameo appearances  for some of the nation’s top acts.

Le Galaxie, The Blizzards, Chasing Abbey & The Minutes have all called upon the duo to add to their sold out bills.
